Hard to believe our first tour of the season is right around the corner! Hope you all had a relaxing long weekend, and that the first day back to school (for those of you with littles) was smooth & exciting!
2026-27 is our fifth concert season: to celebrate, each member has individually curated a concert that revisits two of their favourite quartets from the ensemble’s back catalogue. Our first tour features Piazzolla’s Tango Ballet, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 3, and Fanny Hensel Mendelssohn (yes, Felix’s overlooked sister) String Quartet in E-flat major. Any guesses on whose favourites we’re performing on this program?

Fredericton: Upcoming Più Concert
As some of you may remember, last year Emily & Mark launched a side project called Più. It’s a small concert series based in Fredericton where we can present some musician friends and artists other than ourselves! Our first concert of the season is coming up September 23rd at Gallery 78, featuring composer Michael Cloud Duguay’s acclaimed project “Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go.”
In June, 2024, Canadian composer Michael Cloud Duguay and collaborators travelled over 1,500km across Newfoundland in a self-built, solar-powered mobile studio to record seven historic church organs in remote communities across the province. The resulting project explores the organ through a lens of community, heritage, and preservation, and has received instantaneous and universal critical acclaim, with journalists praising the unique storytelling and the intimacy and poeticism with which he and his collaborators rendered genuine beauty from raw, weathered sources.
Interpretations of the album material will be reproduced on digital midi organ instruments developed by engineer Jake Nicoll, who painstakingly recorded samples of the seven organs from across Newfoundland, precisely replicating the sound of those heard on the album. The evening will also feature a set by special guest, Juno-nominated artist Markus Floats.
